“The doctor of the future…will interest patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
-Thomas A. Edison
The ability to be physically active and independent as the decades pass is not only desirable, but essential to healthy longevity. Decreased activity and increased stress levels lead to accumulation of body fat, reduced circulation, muscle tension, poor posture, loss of bone mass, and structural “wear and tear”.
Flexibility: Limber Up for Longevity
Flexibility is the capacity of a joint to move fluidly through its full range of motion. The major limitation to joint flexibility is the tightness of soft tissue structures (joint capsule, ligaments, muscles, tendons). Sedentary lifestyles permit muscles, tendons and ligaments to weaken, shorten and lose their strength. This not only leads to decreased flexibility, but also leaves one vulnerable to injury, loss of balance and coordination, and to degenerative arthritis. Arthritis can be viewed as progressive stiffening of your joints in response to the inflammation of wear and tear. Mobility and flexibility are the opposite of arthritis and aging.
Flexibility and maintenance of your body’s structural integrity is essential to any anti-aging program. At our clinic, we offer physical and nutritional therapies and personal guidance that are effective in restoring and maintaining neuromusculoskeletal health.
Stress and Tension: A Destructive Duo
In nature, when confronted with a stressful situation such as a predator, the body is mobilized for a physical event- fight or flight.Your nervous system becomes activated with a host of hormonal changes anticipating this physical exertion.
Unfortunately, this response is rarely useful in modern day stresses: interpersonal conflict, anxiety, worry, environmental noise/air/water pollution, etc. In 1956 Hans Selye described how, left unchecked, the stress response can interfere with sleep, immune response, mental focus, and ultimately to adrenal exhaustion. The biochemical and physical responses associated with chronic stress can lead to virtually all diseases associated with aging and death.
Stress-related muscle tension leads to painful conditions such as chronic headache, back and shoulder pain, poor posture, compromised nerves, trigger points (highly irritable spots that refer ache and pain elsewhere in the body), and reduced circulation. This reduction of blood flow causes damage to the muscle cells’ energy-producing capacity and an accumulation of waste products- the main reasons for pain, aching and fatigue. Once initiated, the pain-stress cycle can set off a complex chain of self-perpetuating events that may adversely affect the quality, and perhaps even the quantity, of life.
Becoming more stress-resilient and having outlets and resources for stress management are key to a healthy and enjoyable long life. Our licensed professionals in bodywork-therapeutic massage, physical therapy, acupuncture and chiropractic are available to help restore health, fitness and well-being.

Cranio-sacral Therapy – the therapist uses a light touch to monitor the rhythm of the Craniosacral system to detect potential restrictions and imbalances, then works to release the problem areas and relieve unnecessary pressure on the brain and spinal cord. This results in being freed of restrictions and facilitating your body’s return to an optimal level of functioning.
Thai Yoga Massage – the therapist manipulates energy lines in your body called Sen by guiding your body through a range of yogic stretches and applying deep compression. This releases restriction in your joints and balances your body. The client is dressed in loose clothing and the service is performed on a floor mat.
Reiki -administered by a Reiki Master by the “laying of hands”, it is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation. Research shows Reiki treatments can be effective for pain management, reduced anxiety and depression, and enhanced well-being.
